Description

James Madison and James Monroe Four Language Ship's Papers Signed "James Madison" as president. One partially printed page, 20.5" x 16.5", Boston; December 17, 1811. Printed in French, Spanish, English, and Dutch, this passport authorizes passage of "William S. Picket master or commander of the Brig called Alexander of the burthen of 131 tons or thereabouts, lying at present in the port of Boston bound for Curla Vecchia and laden with Fish." Countersigned by James Monroe as Secretary of State. With two paper seals at the left margin.

Condition: Flattened folds with light toning throughout. Foxing and soiling throughout as well. There are separations at the folds, which have been professionally repaired with archival material on verso at the center. A few small tears at the edges.
