    Description

    James Madison and James Monroe Four Language Ship's Papers Signed. One partially printed page, 21.25" x 16.5", December 21, 1811. Printed in French, Spanish, English, and Dutch, this passport authorizes passage of "Thomas McConnell master or commander of the Schooner called Milan of the burthen 212 90/95 tons or thereabouts, lying at present in the port of Baltimore bound for Bordeaux and laden with Sugar, Pepper, Cinnamon, Coffee, Turtle Shell...." Countersigned by James Monroe as Secretary of State. With a paper seal at the left margin. Framed with plaques and portraits of Madison and Monroe to an overall size of 35.75" x 26.5".

    Condition: Flattened folds and creasing around the seal. There is foxing and soiling throughout. Small tears are visible at the edges.
