    Description

    James K. Polk Signed Military Appointment. One partly printed page of vellum, 13.5" x 17.25", Washington, D.C.; May 18, 1847. Polk commissions "Robert G. Beale...a Captain in the Fourteenth Regiment of Infantry in the service of the United States."

    Signed "James K. Polk" as President. Co-signed by William L. Marcy as Secretary of War. Blind embossed paper seal is intact, with two elaborate vignettes of the American eagle and the flags, cannons, trumpets and pikes at the top and bottom. Docketing at the top left corner and on verso.

    Condition: Flattened folds with some toning and soiling at the edges and folds. The signature remains bold. Slightly uneven margins, else good.
