    Description

    James K. Polk "Affix the Seal" Document Signed "James K Polk". One partially printed page, 8" x 10", Washington, D.C.; March 18, 1845. Ordering the "Secretary of State to affix the Seal of the United States to the ratification of the Convention between the U. States and Bavaria, for the mutual abolition of the droit d'aubaine." On January 21, 1845, a Convention was held between the U.S. and the King of Bavaria to abolish the droit d'aubaine and taxes on emigration. The droit d'aubaine was the right of the crown to confiscate all property when a domiciled alien passed away.

    Condition: Flattened folds, with minor soiling at the lower left and upper right corner. Mounting residue at three of the four corners. At the top margin has been written in pencil, "Mr. Windor".
