    Description

    James Garfield Letter Signed "J. A. Garfield" as a U. S. representative from Ohio. One page, 5" x 8", on House of Representatives letterhead, Washington, April 2, 1878, to the Reverend Isaac Winans regarding his inquiry into a pension. In part: "The Committee on Pensions has reported favorably on the bill granting you a pension and I hope it will become a law. I shall do what I can to secure its passage." Isaac Winans was applying for a Revolutionary War pension. Mounted to card stock to an overall size of 6" x 8.75".
