James Buchanan Autograph Letter Signed "James Buchanan" and Lock of Hair. One page, 5.5" x 7.25" (sight), Wheatland [Lancaster, Pennsylvania], January 20, 1868, to his nephew James Buchanan Henry, six months before his death, regarding financial matters. In part: "On yesterday morning when returning from Church I received your two letters of the 11th and 18th Instants. Heretofore W Williams has in every instance (I believe) informed me of your deposits. Is not his ... on this case evidence that he is tired of the trouble I give him? You have omitted to cut off the coupons from 6 Hamilton County Bonds due 1 October last... I have communicated the information received from General Jones & yourself to Mrs. Magaw who is now with her husband at the Water Cure, Cleveland, Ohio. The General's letter gives Murillo a very bad character, especially in regard to women. Henrietta & Lois are still here."

Matted and framed with a lock of Buchanan's white hair on a white card bearing an inscription by James Buchanan Henry reading: "President Buchanan's hair cut off at the time of his decease at 'Wheatland.' J Buchanan Henry," an engraved portrait bust of the former president by A. B. Walter of Philadelphia, and the original transmittal envelope addressed to his nephew in his hand.
