Jacqueline Kennedy Typed Letter Signed. One page, 5.5" x 7.5" (sight), on White House letterhead, Washington, May 31, 1962. Writing to Edward J. Ortion, president of the Comité Français du Souvenir de La Fayette in New York City, she expresses her "deep appreciation for the perfectly beautiful piece of crystal" to members of the committee and the Military Order of Foreign Wars of the United States. "The portrait of La Fayette," she adds, "is so very well done, and we are delighted to include this lovely piece in our collection of objects of historic interest to The White House." The LaFayette Memorial Committee was formed December 12, 1955. Folds, else fine. Matted with the original transmittal envelope and a portrait of the First Lady and framed to an overall size of 21" x 18".
