Description

Herbert Hoover Signed Speech. A scarce printed copy of his address to the 1948 Republican National Convention entitled "This Crisis in American Life," delivered in Philadelphia on June 22, 1948, 13 pages, 8vo (5.5" x 8.5"), staple bound. He spoke (in small part): "My fellow Republicans, for the inevitable passing of years, this is indicated as probably the last time I will met with you in convention... Therefore, I repeat, what you say and do here and in this campaign, is for transcendent importance. If you produce nothing but improvised platitudes, you will give no hope. If you produce no leadership here, no virile fighter for the right, you will have done nothing of historic significance.... If you temporize with collectivism in any form, you will stimulate its growth and make certain the defeat of free men..." A fine example. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection.
