Herbert Hoover: 3-pg. Typed Letter Signed as Mining Engineer. TLS, London, September 23, 1908, on three sheets of 8" x 10.25" typing paper, addressed to Bewick, Moreing & Company, signed on the last page "H. C. Hoover". Hoover was Chief Engineer for this London-based concern, managing their mines in Australia and China for eleven years, earning a base salary of $12,500 with 20% of the profits. He left the company in 1908 to become an independent consultant. This letter seems to dwell on contentious issues which led to his departure. Hoover enlists the aid of three business associates to clear up a misunderstanding with management over his employment agreement and the publication of a stockholder circular informing investors of some unfavorable developments in their plans for expansion. From a biographical standpoint, this is quite a significant letter related to Hoover's pre-presidential career. Some minor holes and loss to top right corner of first page. From the Estate of Malcolm S. Forbes.
