Harry Truman Typed Letter Signed. One page, 8" x 10.5" (sight), Independence, Missouri; June 15, 1961. In this letter to a Lieutenant J. Robert Northrup on his personal stationery, Truman reflects on his actions on April 12, 1945, his first day as President. It reads in part: "...The 12th of April 1945, was quite a day for me. I was informed in Sam Rayburn's office about 5:30 p.m. that President Roosevelt was dead. It was then necessary for me to call a Cabinet meeting and have a ceremony for the swearing in of the Vice President to become President of the United States..." Attached to the back of the frame is a carbon copy of Northrup's initial letter to Truman. Matted and framed to an overall size of 14.5" x 18". Not examined outside of the frame.

Condition: Smoothed folds. The Kraft paper backing the frame has nearly detached, exposing the matting.
