The former president is writing to Senator Lister Hill informing him that he will not be able to travel to Alabama to endorse him for another term in the Senate. Truman signs at the end of the letter "Harry Truman" with a holographic postscript, "Harry to you." Folds with light toning. Paper clip indentation at upper left corner with light rust staining.

    More Information:

In full: "It is going to be next to impossible for me to make an appearance in Alabama in time to do you any good. As you know, I raised that same question in my last letter to you for I would only consider going there if it would help you. However, I have two problems crowding me - one, a lot of unfinished writing that I am trying to catch up with - the other deals with a flood of invitations to go to many places in connection with the fall elections, a matter that I have had to refer to the Democratic National Committee for scheduling. This is now in the hands of Chairman John M. Bailey, but I will keep on trying for I deeply believe that your role in the Senate is one that is irreplaceable."
