Harry Truman July 3, 1948 Address Signed "Harry Truman." Two pages, 8" x 14", Bolivar, Missouri; July 3, 1948. An address made by President Truman at the dedication of the Simon Bolivar memorial statue on July 5, 1948. Truman would say of the South American, "This man led the movement for the liberation of half a continent. His memory is part of the spirit of freedom and independence in North and South America alike...The historic figure of Simon Bolivar was characterized by steady moral balance and by a deep serenity of mind - gifts of a truly great leader. His virtues were great as a military leader, as a statesman, as a tireless organizer, and as a valiant fighter. His burning spirit of freedom was even greater."

Accompanying the address is a Harry Truman Signed Program from the dedication. The 76 page program, dated July 5, 1948, has been signed "Harry Truman" in black ink. There is also the Transmittal Letter with a Retained Carbon, regarding the acquiring of the signed program and address. One page, 6.25" x 9.25, Washington, D.C.; September 1, 1948. In reply to the retained carbon of August 21, 1948, Truman's Secretary, Matthew J. Connelly, sends to John K. Hulston the signed copy of the address and the souvenir program.

Condition: The address has some flattened folds, and is lightly toned. The program is in good condition. The transmittal letter and retained carbon have flattened folds and light creasing; some soiling is present at the top margin of White House letterhead. Overall very fine.
