Description
Harry S. Truman Typed Letter Signed as President. One page, 6.75" x 8.75" (sight), White House, Washington, D.C.; November 14, 1952. Addressed to the Honorable Carl H. Claudy, Executive Secretary of the Masonic Service Association, on official "White House" letterhead. President Truman thanks him for a previous letter and indicates his intention to arrange a meeting with Claudy before leaving the White House. It reads, in full:"I appreciated your letter of the eighth very much. We will try and arrange so you can come in before I leave the White House." Signed, "Harry S. Truman".
The letter has been handsomely matted and framed with a black and white print photograph of Truman to the overall size of 15.25" x 22.5". Not examined outside of the frame. Accompanied by the original White House transmittal envelope.
Carl H. Claudy (1879-1957) was a Masonic leader and author from Washington, D.C. He frequently corresponded with fellow freemason Harry S. Truman throughout the latter's presidency and was present at the White House on March 31, 1948 when Truman was presented the insignia of an honorary member of the Scottish Rite. In addition to his Masonic works, Claudy authored numerous science and science fiction periodicals. He also wrote for DC Comics between 1939 and 1941.
Condition: Smoothed folds. Envelope very lightly worn.
