Harry S. Truman. Photograph of the inaugural swearing in ceremony inscribed and twice signed ("Harry S. Truman" and "H.S.T."). 1 page, (14 x 11 inches), no place, no date, to Barnet Nora. Two minor wrinkles, a few light scratches, minor edgewear. Light sunning along top edge.An inscribed and twice signed photograph of Truman's historic first inauguration.
Harry S. Truman was sworn in as the 33rd president of the United States in the Cabinet Room inside the White House at 7:09 p.m. on April 12, 1945. The impromptu ceremony took place following the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt in Warm Springs, Georgia earlier that day. The black and white photograph captures Truman swearing the oath before Chief Justice Harlan F. Stone while encircled by various cabinet members, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Truman's wife and daughter. In the upper left corner, Truman penned in black felt tip, "This ceremony took place April 12, 1945 at 7:09 P.M. in the cabinet room in the executive offices. H.S.T." The president inscribed the photograph in the upper right corner, likewise in black felt tip, "Kindest regards to Barnet Nora. Harry S. Truman."
