Description

President Cleveland orders a suit for Christmas, but warns his tailor, "if you make a botch of it I will not... pay for the clothes"

Grover Cleveland Autograph Letter Signed as President on White House letterhead. Two pages, 4.5" x 7", Washington, Dec. 10, 1885, addressed to a J.P. Bailly. In large part: "If you think you can with the measurements you now have, make me a suit of very nice clothes and have them done by Christmas... I will leave the selection of the cloth to you, but if you make a botch of it I will not take [illegible word] pay for the clothes..." Lightly soiled and toned, with a small tear just above the letterhead imprint, otherwise near fine.
