    George Washington Three Language Ship's Passport Signed. One partially printed sheet, 12.75" x 16" (sight), Portsmouth; May 20, 1795. A passport printed in French, English, and Dutch, which authorizes the passage of "John Shackford master or commander of the Briggantine called Rebecca of the burthen of 146 tons or thereabouts...bound for West Indies and laden with Boards, Staves, Shingles, Shooks, Fish..." Signed, "Go: Washington." Countersigned by Edmund Randolph as Secretary of State and Joseph Whipple as Collector for the Port of Portsmouth. With blind embossed paper seal at center left of the document and at the bottom. It is matted and framed to an overall size of 22.5" x 26.5". Not examined outside of the frame.

    Condition: Backed with what is presumed to be Japanese tissue paper. Slight separation with some small areas of loss at intersection of folds.
