Description

George Washington Partial Document Signed "Go. Washington." 10" x 4.5". A portion of a three languages ship's paper containing the seal. Also signed by Edmund Randolph as Secretary of State. The document is dated August 22, 1795. These ship's papers were usually signed in advance of being engrossed. Randolph ceased to be Secretary of State on August 20, 1795, so the document was likely signed earlier than the date it was issued.

Condition: Heavy toning throughout. Paper has been added along the right margin which affects Randolph's signature. Paper seal is present, but has staining from adhesive showing through. Uneven margin at bottom. Vertical folds, including one that goes through Washington's signature. Unevenly trimmed.
