George Washington Check Signed "G:o Washington." One partially printed page, 7" x 2.5", Mount Vernon; June 11, 1799. Filled out entirely in Washington's hand just a few months before his death. Washington crossed out the pre-printed city of Alexandria and wrote in "Mount Vernon". Check No. 2, payable to "Mr. John Moss...Three hundred & ninety seven Dollars, five cents." With cancellation cuts. The check has been tipped into to a paper stock card to measure 8.75" x 3.5" overall.

The recipient of the check, John Moss, may be the John Moss who before the Revolution had an Ordinary (or inn) at Sugar Land Run about halfway between Leesburg and Alexandria.

Condition: Flattened fold with uneven toning throughout. There is some minor loss of handwriting, possibly due to prior adhesion, where Washington writes out "five" cents and in the top loop of the "sh" and "t" in "Washington". Top edge of check is slightly rough. As mentioned, there are cancellation cuts at the right side.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
