I take the liberty therefore of introducing them to your civilities as they pass through Fredericksburgh. Mrs Washington joins me in best respects to Mrs Fitzhugh & I am Doctor Yr Most Obed svt &c". The letter is folded into a hand-carried envelope and one verso panel is addressed " William Fitzhugh Esq at Chatham". Framed to 20.5" x 14" with a lithograph of George Washington and having a window on the back displaying the address panel. Moderate archival repairs along folds, light stains and overall browning. We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
