    Franklin Pierce Military Appointment Signed "Franklin Pierce". One vellum page, partially printed, 15.75" x 19.25", Washington D. C., July 23, 1856, with handsome engraved military and patriotic vignettes and countersigned by Jefferson Davis as Secretary of War, appointing "Henry C. Bankhead . . . First Lieutenant in the Fifth Regiment of Infantry in the service of the United States." Folds; light to moderate foxing, especially around the margins. Top right corner is chipped and soiled.
