Description
Franklin Pierce Document Signed as President. One page, 7.5" x 9.5", partly printed, Washington, D.C., July 1, 1854. A warrant in which Pierce instructs the "...Secretary of State to affix the Seal of the United States to the Envelope of a letter addressed to His Excellency, The President of the Republic of Bolivia..." Pierce was the last Whig to occupy the White House. The Kansas-Nebraska Act was the most controversial event of his presidency; it re-opened the question of slavery in the West. His opponents saw it as a triumph for slavery and it led to the formation of the Republican Party. This document is in very fine condition and is double matted with a vintage engraving and framed to an overall size of 19" x 15.5". Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.Auction Info
