Description
Franklin Pierce Autograph Letter Signed. "Fr. Pierce". One page, bifolium, 8" x 10", period docketed on the verso. Washington, D.C.; February 22, 1839. In a letter to New Hampshire politician Asa Fowler, future president and anti-abolitionist Franklin Pierce writes of a newspaper reprinting his remarks made in the Senate "upon the presentation of an abolition petition reform from Antrim [New Hampshire] - I believe my speech upon Calhoun's resolutions delivered Jany. 9, 1838 was published in the Patriot. I think it important that the concluding part of that speech be republished with these remarks." Remnants of a broken wax seal on the verso.Condition: Smoothed folds, with light toning and soiling.
