DescriptionFranklin D. Roosevelt Typed Memo to Elmer Davis Signed "FDR". One page, 4.5" x 7.25" (sight), Washington, D.C.; June 17, 1942. In a short letter to the famed journalist and Head of the Office of War Information during the Second World War, Roosevelt writes in full:
"MEMORANDUM FOR HON. ELMER DAVIS. This is your No. 1 headache. The Army people are dumb when it comes to a matter of information that Negro troops landing in Ireland are for 'service supply'. In other words, it is the same old story of publicizing the fact during the World War that the Negro troops were sent to France as 'labor battalions'. F.D.R."
The letter is matted and framed along with an image of FDR and a signed photograph of Davis that is inscribed, "To Lillian Lentz who can now truthfully tell them that I'm not in. Elmer Davis 1945". The frame measures 14.5" x 45.5" overall.
Condition: The letter has a flattened fold with light soiling in places. Else very good.
