DescriptionFranklin D. Roosevelt Typed Letter Signed "Franklin D Roosevelt". One page of a bifolium of White House letterhead, 7" x 9", Washington, D.C.; August 14, 1933. To Emary Brannon, Esq. of Georgia:
"It was fine of you to send me that crate of delicious peaches, and I want to thank you heartily on behalf of Mrs. Roosevelt and myself for your thought of us. You may be sure that we enjoyed the fruit."
Roosevelt was inaugurated in March 1933, during the height of the Great Depression, when most banks were closed and both industrial and agricultural production was suffering. While it may not seem like a big deal now, it was a considerable gift to send the president a crate of peaches at that time. From the Estate of Malcolm S. Forbes.
