Franklin D. Roosevelt Typed Letter Signed. One page on White House letterhead with blank integral, 7" x 9"; March 11, 1933. A brief letter to Charles Edison, son of Thomas Edison, thanking him for his "very heartening telegram." Together with a retained copy of Edison's message on Telegraphic Communication, which reads in part: "Want you to know that every step you have taken meets with the hearty approval of myself and associates regardless of political affiliations..." Roosevelt had recently launched the New Deal and had called Congress in for a Special Session to begin on March 9, 1933. Three days earlier, Roosevelt declared a national bank holiday, closing all the banks, and on the first day of the Special Session, Congress immediately passed the Emergency Banking Act.

Both the letter have mat burn and toning, but text and signature remain bold. Telegraph has small tear with paper loss at center not affecting any text, and chipping at top right corner. Both pieces have mounting remnants on verso from previous framing.
