Description

Franklin D. Roosevelt Typed Letter Signed as President. One page, 8" x 10.5", on "The White House" letterhead, Washington, January 12, 1942, to Chase A. Clark, Governor of Idaho. The letter reads in full:

"I have your telegram of December 31, 1941, relative to the transfer of the Social Security board from Washington. The transfer to be made is merely that portion of the Bureau of Old-Age and Survivors Insurance of the Social Security Board which is at present in Washington. A large part of this Bureau already has headquarters in Baltimore.

"The transfer of agencies from Washington is a regrettable emergency measure occasioned by a serious lack of building and housing space. Your cooperation in this and all other wartime measures is appreciated."

Stamped in the bottom right corner "Received/Jan 15 1942/Office of the Governor/State of Ohio." Folds, else very fine.
