Interesting letter on State of New York, Executive Chamber, Albany stationery, dated Febraury 11, 1929, FDR's second month as Governor of New York, to C. M. Ripley, Esq., of the Publicity Department of General Electric. Docketed as received in the Corporate Affairs Department of General Electric on February 11, 1929, FDR writes: Dear Mr. Ripley: –/ I am very much interested in reading your article about New York State and I think that at last we are beginning to arouse real interest on the part of the citizens in the wonderful resources which they possess. [underlined in FDR's own hand]/ Very sincerely yours,/ Franklin D. Roosevelt." As noted in the archives of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 1933, Charles M. Ripley was a General Electric engineer and traveler who has covered over twenty thousand miles by airplane, and was regarded as a preeminent social and economic interpreter of the electrical industry. FDR, the new Governor of New York, touts his citizens' evolving consciousness of the resources of New York.
