    Description

Franklin D. Roosevelt Typed Letter Signed, with unsigned photo. The letter is one page, 7" x 9", on White House letterhead, August 31, 1935, to Henry G. Leach, editor of the Forum magazine in New York City. The letter reads in part: "It was certainly a grand and glorious session - more real progressive accomplishment than any in my memory. I have a grand topic for debate but it would take too long to explain it in writing. When I see you I will tell you. It might even be an ultimate solution of international troubles. You may gather from this that I am taking the advice of friends and letting the country have a little rest from any domestic bombshells emanating from me. Perhaps it will do us good to look outside our borders for a few months." Henry Leach was an American author and editor, editing the Forum from 1923 to 1940. In the late-1800s, the Forum, was one of the most respected magazines in America. After the Great Depression began, the magazine published articles offering cures for America's economic woes. The letter bears only minor stains. The sepia photograph measures 8" x 10" and features President Roosevelt holding a leaf of paper while seated. Very clean.
