Franklin D. Roosevelt Sewanna Log Book Inscribed on the front free endpaper, "For Col[?] Starling / from his old friend / Franklin D Roosevelt." The log book, entitled Log of the Cruise of President Franklin D. Roosevelt Aboard the Schooner Yacht Sewanna to Maine, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick, 14 July 1936 - 28 July 1936 (Washington, D.C.: U.S. Government Printing Office, 1937), is an anecdotal account of President Franklin's 1936 cruise aboard the fifty-six-foot schooner Sewanna, which was owned by fellow New Yorker Harrison Tweed. The cruise left Rockland Harbor, Maine, seventeen days after Roosevelt was renominated at the 1936 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. It ended at Campobello, New Brunswick. In original blue cloth (8vo.) with an anchor stamped in gilt on the cover, the log book contains a frontispiece photograph of the schooner yacht Sewanna, an itinerary. The book also contains a list of all persons on the voyage, including "The President. Mr. James Roosevelt. Mr. Franklin D. Roosevelt, Jr. Mr. John Roosevelt"; the commanders of the U.S.S. Potomac; members of the presidential party; commanders of the escort vehicle (the U.S.S. Hopkins); three U.S. Secret Service members (Russell Wood, Robert Clark, and James Stringfellow); the crew of the U.S.S. Owl; and the crew of the schooner Liberty. A folding map (18" x 14.5") is also included. Colonel Edmund Starling was a White House Secret Service chief who spent thirty years protecting five presidents - including FDR - at the White House.
