Description

Franklin D. Roosevelt: Inscribed and Signed Lithograph Sketch. 12.25" x 15.75" (sight). A large print sketch of FDR inscribed to the Poughkeepsie order of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, a fraternal order originally founded in 1868. The inscription reads in full: "For the Elks Club of Poughkeepsie / from their fellow member / Franklin D. Roosevelt." Roosevelt later became president of Lodge No. 275 at Poughkeepsie, just minutes from his beloved Hyde Park. The portrait features FDR seated in a relaxed, thoughtful pose, a much scarcer version of the famous bust illustration from the same sitting. The artist also signed "Perskie / Copyright" at bottom right. Jacob Perskie was a close friend of Roosevelt's and drew numerous portraits of him which were then used in his presidential campaigns. This particular image was first used in his 1932 run. The portrait has been handsomely matted and framed to the overall size of 19.5" x 23.75". Light block of uniform toning and some minute, scattered areas of foxing with a clear, bold inscription and signature.
