Franklin D. Roosevelt: Delightful War-date TLS. 1-page TLS, May 18, 1943, written on White House stationery, from Franklin D. Roosevelt to Louisiana Senator Allen J. Ellender. "Jimmy Byrnes has given me the potatoes which you were kind enough to send to me. Nothing could be more welcome, particularly at the present time, than a bag of potatoes. I am enjoying them immensely..." Clean and bold signature. Jimmy Brynes was a close confident and advisor to the President. We often associate potatoes with the army and K.P. duty, but here the Commander-in-Chief declares his down-to-earth side and simple tastes.
