    Description

EXCEPTIONAL LARGE ZACHARY TAYLOR SIGNED DOCUMENT. An 1835 muster roll for non-commissioned officers and other employees at Fort Crawford for the month of July.  Taylor had been called back into active service in 1832 to command the forces in the Black Hawk War.  Ft. Crawford, in Wisconsin, was a major outpost in that campaign.  Indeed, Black Hawk surrendered to Taylor at Ft. Crawford.  Interestingly, a young officer named Jefferson Davis arrived at Ft. Crawford to take Black Hawk into custody and transport him to St. Louis.  This impressive, large 20 x 16" document, for an Indian Territory outpost, is in superb condition but for original fold lines, and is boldly signed by Taylor in the lower LH corner.  Super display piece.  Please note: Due to the size and/or weight of this lot, additional shipping costs may apply. LOA from James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA.
