Description

Chester Arthur Letter Signed "C.A. Arthur." One page, 5.75" x 8.75", New York; December 11, 1873. Addressed to William Laimbeer: "It affords me much pleasure to recommend to your favorable consideration, Mr. Richard M. Lush, who, I understand, is an applicant for the position of Warden in your Department..."

Arthur was appointed Collector of the Custom House at New York, and served from 1871 to 1875.

Condition: Usual mail folds, uneven toning. Small area of soiling at center, pencil notation at upper right corner. Mounting residue on verso.
