Chester A. Arthur Letter Signed as vice president. One page, 5" x 8", New York, August 22, 1881. One month before assuming the presidency following James Garfield's assassination, Vice President Arthur writes this letter to Charles J. Folger, thanking him for his "kind letter of the 19th inst." Two months later as president, Arthur appointed Folger as his treasury secretary. Discoloration from tape residue on the verso has slightly affected Arthur's large signature. With other minor mounting residue on the verso; some separation along the smoothed folds.Auction Info
