    Description

    Chester A. Arthur Letter Signed as President. One page (of a bifolium) on Executive Mansion stationery, 5.5" x 9", Washington, D.C.; March 28, 1884. A letter, in a secretarial hand, signed by President Arthur to William H. Tefft, acknowledging receipt of the latter's letter.

    Arthur (1829-1886), from New York, became the 21st President of the United States upon the assassination and death of James A. Garfield in 1881. He served as president until March 1885.

    William H. Tefft (1831-1898) was a long-time New York journalist who was a Republican who served in the New York State Assembly. Ex. R. Douglas Stuart.

    Condition: The letter is slightly wrinkled with two horizontal folds, with adhesive at tops of pages 2, 3, and 4 of the bifolium.
