Description

Chester A. Arthur Autograph Letter Signed as President. One page on Executive Mansion letterhead, 4.5" x 7" (sight). Washington, D.C.; February 25, 1884. A letter to James Grant Wilson, responding to a request, possibly for an autograph, from the latter. "It gives me pleasure to comply with your request. Very faithfully yours, Chester A. Arthur."
Condition: Letter is matted with a photograph of Arthur to an overall size of 18.25" x 14".



More Information:

James Grant Wilson (1832-1914) was an American editor, author, and publisher. After serving the Civil War as a major in the 15th Illinois Cavalry, Wilson settled in New York, where he edited biographies and histories. He served for a while as president of the Society of American Authors. One of the works he edited was The President of the United States 1789-1914, which was published in four volumes in 1914.
