    Description

    ANDREW JACKSON FREE FRANK.

Jackson, Andrew (1767-1845) Seventh president of the United States. ALS of "Andrew Jackson Donelson," Greenville, VA, July 14th (N.Y.), addressed to "My dear Major." The president's nephew discusses a trip over the Blue Ridge mountains. "...We lodged at Waynesborough last night and had five musicioners. I ain't got much news to tell you. you must keep everything in order until we come back. excuse me for mistakes. I have nothing more to says believe me." The letter is contained in a stampless cover, addressed to "Major William Noland Washington City D.C." and inscribed at top "Free Andrew Jackson." The Free Frank signature is that of Old Hickory, himself! Some minor loss at integral leaf, not affecting signature. Docketed and inscribed in unknown hand, "Master A. J. Donelson." The President apparently used his franking privilege to send his nephew's letter without cost. This was probably an abuse of the privilege, but who's complaining? Young "A.J" likely reciprocated the favor by signing routine documents for his famous uncle. LOA from James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Please note: Due to the size and/or weight of this lot, additional shipping costs may apply.
