Description
Andrew Jackson Diploma Signed following his departure from the presidency. One partially printed, vellum page, 18" x 16.75", in Latin, Nashville, October 5, 1842, conferring a bachelor's degree in liberal arts upon John Wharton Williams from the now defunct University of Nashville. Jackson signs as one of the members of the Board of Trustees along with John Bell, a future secretary of war under Presidents William Henry Harrison and John Tyler, Nashville founder Francis Fogg, and University President Philip Lindsley. Seal of the University attached with a silk ribbon in the center. Jackson's signature is bold, as always, despite his advancing age. Very light toning along right edge. Very small spot of staining on the signature of Bell, else fine.Auction Info
