Andrew Jackson Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 8" x 9.75", Hermitage [Tennessee]; February 10, 1841. Addressed to a Lewis J. Cist. It reads in part: "Your letter of the 8th of January last reached me thro [sic] due course of mail, but such is the state of my health, that at all times I cannot hold the pen. And to be candid, I am so much annoyed with similar appreciations that I have ceased to comply with them, unless to particular friends; and I now comply with yours to replace that which you have lost. I am sir with great respect yours, etc etc." Boldly signed, "Andrew Jackson." Lewis J. Cist (1818-1885) wrote to Jackson on March 24, 1838 asking for his autograph for a collection. Presumably this may be what Jackson is referring to here. Lewis J. Cist authored Trifles in Verse: A Collection of Fugitive Poems which was published in 1845.

Condition: Letter is lightly rubbed and toned with some minute foxing. Smoothed folds.
