Abraham Lincoln. Unsigned Autograph Document. Vermilion Co. (Ill.), Oct. 24, 1851, one-half page, folio. A deposition prepared for and signed by Newton Low, which has been witnessed by the dated signature of David Davis (as "D Davis Judge"). Low swears on oath that sometime in September he "heard John Ritter speak of Dr. William Fithian in very unfriendly terms, and particularly in relation to the pending law suit between…Fithian and George W. Casseday in which he expressed the wish that Casseday might gain the suit…" Low states that he "does not recollect the precise language used by…Ritter, but he is sure he is not mistaken in the substance of the statements…" Slightly frayed margins; margins and folds reinforced on verso, which is blank except for a docket. SEE PRECEDING LOTS From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.

Please note: An "Unsigned Autograph Document" means that this document is written in Abraham Lincoln's own handwriting, but does not include a signature.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
