Includes 1) a faded, but clearly legible 2 1/2 page letter to Lincoln from Arietta Henry, petitioning the President for a brigadier general's star for her son, Col. Guy V. Henry.  "I will not burden your mind even with his untarnished record -- he is all I have, as his father died in service."  Gives several generals as references, and closes.  "I ask it as no personal or political favor.  I ask but justice to a brave soldier, a fatherless boy."  The letter was sent in a 4 1/2 x 2 3/4" envelope, addressed:  "For the President of the United States."  Lincoln has written boldly across one end, "Submitted to Sec. of War.  A. Lincoln...July 2, 1864."

Apparently the "powers that be" were moved, as Henry received his general's appointment.  A fine Lincoln autograph item in beautiful, strong, clean condition.
