    Abraham Lincoln Signed Military Appointment. One partially printed page of vellum, 12.75" x 15.75", City of Washington; August 17, 1861. This document appoints "William Williams...Major in the Fourteenth Regiment of Infantry in the service of the United States." Signed, "Abraham Lincoln." Countersigned by Simon Cameron as Secretary of War. With docketing and patriotic vignettes at the top and bottom margins.

    Condition: The writing on the document has been retraced, excluding the signatures. Trimmed margins. 2" closed tear along left margin which has been partially repaired with tape on verso. Lightly rubbed and toned with minute foxing.
