Description

Abraham Lincoln Signed Military Appointment. Single sheet of vellum, 14.5" x 18.25"; City of Washington; March 15, 1865. Document appoints Nathan R. Gardner to the post of "Commissary of Subsistence of Volunteers with the rank of Captain". Signed, "Abraham Lincoln" and Secretary of State Edwin Stanton. Bearing elegant engravings at top and bottom; the blue paper seal is intact. Ideal for display.

Condition: A few scattered spots of foxing, the ink has lightened slightly, but remains very visible. Small bit of paper loss occurring at center where folds meet. Traces of adhesive remain on verso.
