    Description

    Abraham Lincoln Political Appointment Signed "Abraham Lincoln". One partially-printed page, 22.5" x 17.75", City of Washington, D.C.; February 14, 1865. Document appointing Henry S. Wetmore as U.S. Consul to Peru. Wetmore had commanded the 9th Ohio Battery, and was cited for bravery in 1862. Just two months after he signed this appointment, Lincoln was assassinated. Countersigned by Secretary of State William H. Seward, with blind embossed seal. Housed in a navy clothbound case.

    Condition: Vertical and horizontal folds, partial separation occurring at vertical fold and bits of loss where folds intersect. Else, very fine. Signature is bold.
