Description

Abraham Lincoln Political Appointment Signed as president and countersigned by Secretary of State William H. Seward. One page, 15" x 10.5", "City of Washington", July 16, 1861, appointing Simon M. Cutler "Deputy Postmaster at San Jose, in the State of California". The president's signature is especially bold and clear. On browned paper with some foxing. Some separation occurs along the fold through the blind-embossed paper seal. Mounting remnants along top edge on the verso are apparent from the recto.
