A tremendously early Lincoln legal document… signed only a year after he was admitted to the Illinois Bar!

Abraham Lincoln Manuscript Document Signed "Stuart & Lincoln for Pl[ainti]ff," one page, 8" x 2.5", [no place], June 18, 1838, a receipt for $420 received from Sheriff "G. Elkin... in the case of Hickman vs. Braucher." One of the earliest known examples of a Lincoln legal document we have ever encountered. Signed only a year after Lincoln formed his first partnership with John T. Stuart. Includes a letter of authenticity from Lincoln National Life Foundation and R. Gerald McMurtry. An extremely early piece. Noted in Barringer, Lincoln Day by Day. Overall quite clean, numerous tears have been reinforced on verso with lamination that does not bleed through, overall quite a nice presentation.
