Description

Abraham Lincoln: Especially Nice Signed Civil War Appointment. An 1863 document appointing Amos B. Eaton as a colonel and "Assistant Commissary General of Subsistence." Eaton's military career spanned the Seminole and Mexican Wars as well, and before the end of the Civil War he would be breveted Major General. He retired in 1874. While the army in those days swarmed with lesser generals (especially as many were killed off), major general remained a lofty rank. Superb condition, with an exceptionally bold, strong, and clean Lincoln signature. Also signed by Edwin Stanton as secretary of war. Elegantly custom-framed with carte de visite photos of Eaton & Lincoln. 14" x 18". Framed to 27" x 26".
