    Description

Abraham Lincoln: Autograph Note Signed [ANS] as President.
3" x 1.75" card inscribed by the President and addressed to Edwin Stanton. In full: "Hon. Sec. of War, please see the bearer & have his case fairly examined, whose loss in our service certainly entitles him to so much. A. Lincoln Aug. 20, 1864". Three very small pinholes with some inconsequential smudging; overall, very good. Lincoln also wrote on this day to Stanton asking about an appointment to West Point for Garland Whittier. A gem!
