    Description

    Abraham Lincoln Autograph Endorsement Signed "A. Lincoln". One page of a bifolium, 5.25" x 8.25", No place; May 29, 1862. Lincoln responds to a petition for the release of a Mr. Smith of Kentucky's son. The original letter gives testimony to the character of Mr. Smith, and begs for the release of the man's son, who had been captured. Lincoln writes, "This boy is said to be only nineteen years of age, and so diseased as to be unfit for military duty. As nearly the entire Congressional delegations from Ky & Va ask his release, the Secretary of War will please bail him to the bearer, who is his brother-in-law." Written and signed boldly by Lincoln.

    Condition: Flattened mail folds, with light toning at the edges and minor foxing and soiling throughout. Else very good.
