Abraham Lincoln Autograph Endorsement Signed. Found on the verso of a one page letter, 7.75" x 9.75" (sight), Washington, January 24, 1862, addressed to President Lincoln from representatives of the U.S. House of Representatives for the state of Kentucky requesting "the appointment of George P. Webster . . . to the place of Brigade Quartermaster in the Volunteer Service of the United States." Signed by seven Kentucky congressmen. The following day, the president placed the following endorsement on the verso: "These are most ample recommendations; and I shall be pleased with the appointment of the applicant when it can be consistently be made. [signed] A. Lincoln Jan. 25, 1862." Lightly soiled along the folds. Matted and framed to a size of 16" x 14.5". Webster was a member of the Kentucky legislature and a captain in the volunteer army prior to his appointment as quartermaster. This endorsement is not found in The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
